ATEX
ATEX is a set of European Union directives. Their purpose is to ensure work safety in environments where there is a risk of explosion. ATEX equipment therefore constitutes a broad product catalog for companies exposed to such hazards. The regulations concern devices, installations, and systems used in so-called explosive atmospheres, where gases, vapors, dusts, or mists are present in concentrations that may lead to ignition. Every company in which there is a risk of explosion must use certified solutions compliant with ATEX.
At 4safety, we have prepared ATEX equipment designed and manufactured in accordance with international requirements. Discover the possibilities we place at your disposal and take advantage of the products waiting for you in our offer. Detailed information can be found in the product sheets. What is ATEX and what equipment does it cover?
ATEX directives cover both machines, large technological devices, and elements of the everyday equipment of halls or warehouses. These include, among others:
- explosion-proof lighting,
- ventilation systems limiting the accumulation of flammable substances,
- specialist hand tools made of non-sparking materials,
- collective protection measures (barriers or guards).
Thanks to them, it is possible to reduce the risk of ignition in zones particularly exposed to the occurrence of explosive atmospheres. Learn more and complete an ATEX equipment set with the help of the 4safety team now.
ATEX equipment is required in:
- chemical industry plants,
- refineries,
- fuel and chemical warehouses,
- facilities in the food or pharmaceutical industry,
- sectors where the presence of flammable substances is an everyday reality.
Protections must therefore be comprehensive. Properly selected and certified ATEX equipment guarantees compliance with legal requirements and safe working conditions for employees. Adapt your company's facility to EU requirements now and make sure to pass the audit in line with expectations.
ATEX standards and classifications – what do you need to know?
The ATEX system is based on strictly defined standards and classifications. They make it possible to match devices and installations to the level of hazard occurring in a given zone. The division into explosion hazard zones is of key importance:
- 0, 1 and 2 for gases,
- 20, 21 and 22 for dusts.
Each zone determines the degree of risk – from the constant presence of explosive substances to their occasional appearance in the facility space. Remember that if you are not sure whether specific ATEX equipment will fulfill its purpose, our 4safety team will help you complete the assortment in accordance with the requirements.
In addition to the division into zones, devices and systems are classified into categories. They indicate whether ATEX equipment can be used in conditions of high, medium or low hazard.
For example:
- category 1 devices are intended for operation in zones with the highest risk,
- category 3 devices may be used where the hazard occurs rarely.
Remember! Proper matching of the equipment to the zone is crucial. Only then can we speak of full protection and compliance with legal regulations.
Failure to comply with ATEX standards carries serious consequences. In addition to legal risk and financial penalties, the most important issue is the real threat to the health and lives of employees. An explosion or fire in an industrial area can lead to tragically severe accidents and enormous losses. That is why it is important for every entrepreneur operating in an explosion-prone industry to comply with the applicable guidelines.
