Storage systems maintenance
Purchasing a product that complies with a particular standard does not guarantee maximum safety. Installation, correct use and regular inspection are just as important.
Whilst employees are responsible for the correct use of the equipment, installation and all inspections must be carried out by authorised organisations. At 4safety, we have expertise in the inspection, maintenance and repair of fire-resistant equipment and storage systems. We also hold third-party liability insurance and possess all the necessary qualifications and training required by the equipment manufacturers.

Why is an annual inspection of a fireproof cabinet necessary?
Fire-resistant cabinets compliant with the PN-EN 14470 standard:
- They minimise the risk of fire
- They minimise the amount of vapours released into the environment
- They prevent the spread of any potential leaks
Safety is ensured and the requirements of standard PN-EN 14470 are met once:
- correct positioning/levelling of the cabinet
- determining the ventilation or EX explosion hazard zone
- earthing the cabinet
At first glance, some defects in the cupboard may not be visible, so during the annual inspection we will also check:
fire-rated doors and door closers, hinges, locks, unobstructed ventilation ducts, expansion seals
Any damage occurring during the months of use renders the cabinet unsuitable for storing flammable substances. An example of a cabinet that does not comply with the standard is shown in the video below.
How should fire-resistant containers be maintained?
As with cupboards, containers and all their fittings should be serviced regularly.
During the annual inspection, we will check the container’s basic features, such as:
- general condition,
- any mechanical damage caused,
- any corrosion of the metal sheets,
- collection trays and grids
and the condition of the equipment:
- EX/ATEX lighting,
- EX/ATEX ventilation and air conditioning,
- electrical boxes,
- condition of the thermolocks and doors
A fire-resistant warehouse complying with the PN-EN 1090 structural standards, constructed from top-quality materials that meet the PN–EN 13172 and PN–EN 14509 standards, does not provide a lifetime safety guarantee. Equally important is the systematic monitoring and storage of substances in accordance with their safety data sheets.
Annual review of storage systems with 4safety
Following the inspection:
- we will draw up a report containing comments, recommendations and conclusions
- We will provide a list of service parts to be replaced
- We will affix a clearly legible label showing the date of the inspection and the date of the next one
- we will extend the fire resistance certificate for the cabinet or container for a further 12 months
Periodic inspection of industrial racking
Forklift traffic exposes industrial racking to numerous types of damage and is often the cause of collisions within warehouses.
The PN-EN 15635 standard requires users to carry out an annual inspection of shelving.
The following should serve as a signal to the user to call out a service technician:
- out-of-date information signs or a lack of them
- mechanical damage, cracks
- deviations in parts of the shelving units: uprights, frame braces, beams and covers
- condition of the floor – cracks that could affect the stability of the shelving
In addition, during the service we will check:
- the condition of the connections between the footing and the ground, and between the load-bearing beam and the column
- compliance of the storage system installation with the instructions
- overloading of racking and compliance of load units with the documentation
Class V0 flexible barriers are used to protect shelving from impacts.
